The Largest Mobile Music Library In The World

This may seem like a pretty wild claim, but I am prepared to back it up with facts.  For the past 16 years, I have been collecting CD's at a frightening rate, averaging about 500 CD's a year.  Currently I own something around 7000 CD's and I see no end to this cycle.

In addition to the 1100 CD's I normally carry >>>

I recently contracted a company called "Visiosonic" the manufactures of PCDJ to build a custom one-of-a-kind computer system for me.  According to them, a system of this size has never been built for a mobile disc jockey before, though a couple radio stations have purchased similar systems.

For 6 months, I undertook the daunting task of transferring my entire music library to MP3.  I completed the job in June and have a mobile library of over 65,000 songs, no duplicates and no bootleg.  Considering the fact that you can only play about 105 songs in a 6 hour evening, I can now play 619 parties without playing a single repeat, (although some songs may have more than one version).

The best part is that I own all of the originals; again, there is NO BOOTLEG or STOLEN MUSIC in my collection.  Also, I control the quality of the music and everything is sampled at a ridiculous 256 kbs, double of what most disc jockeys are using.  In simple terms: most of the songs available on the Internet are compressed at 128 kbs (very small files).  When you compress a song, you reduce the sound quality because you are removing parts of the song.  They will still sound good on your computer, but when you amplify them and play them in large halls they will sound weak and empty.  Kind of like the difference between a conversation with someone in person compared to a conversation on a bad cell phone connection.  My songs are barely compressed and take up a huge amount of hard drive space.

So, how does this new system help you?  Several ways.  First, there is no risk of forgetting to bring a CD.  I can check for all of your requests before the party and save them into a custom play list.  Second, I can find a song in flash because of the PCDJ software that catalogs every song (no down time trying to remember what CD a song is on).  Next, no matter what crazy request one of your guests come up with, I will have it with me instead of sitting on a shelf at our office.

More good reasons:

  • MP3 files never wear out or skip (if they are sampled correctly)

  • The software keeps a log of every song that is played and when

  • The software also tracks the total time remaining in the play list, this way I can tell whether or not I can take more requests.

  • I can search for a song by artist, song title, album, year, genre, beats per minute, etc.

  • If someone is not sure of the exact title, I can do a partial search

I could go on and on about this but the bottom line is this system makes me a better disc jockey because it allows me to concentrate on the party, instead of fumbling through my collection looking for some obscure request.

Yes it is true that you could put together a collection of 100 CD's and get through any night.  However, I am not about "getting through" the night.  I want you to have the absolute best of everything and I will not settle for less, I hope you will not either.
